Ontario Premier Doug Ford said U.S. tariffs on Canadian goods are ineffective and have instead galvanized public opposition north of the border. “Tariffs do not work,” he told reporters, adding that President Donald Trump “drives me crazy” along with “41 million Canadians.” Ford argued that Trump’s trade policies have inadvertently united Canadians across political lines. “That’s the only credit I’m going to give this guy—he has united the country,” the premier said. Turning to domestic issues, Ford dismissed suggestions that Canada’s border‐security problems stem from Mark Carney, saying the challenges pre-date the incoming Liberal government. He urged Ottawa to allocate more resources to the Canada Border Services Agency and expressed hope that the Carney Liberals will make the agency a priority.
