Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on his first official visit to Trinidad and Tobago, presented Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar with a replica of the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya and holy water drawn from the Saryu River and the 2025 Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj. The exchange took place on 4 July during a dinner hosted in his honour in Port of Spain, marking the first bilateral visit by an Indian leader to the Caribbean nation in more than 25 years. Modi said the gifts represent the “deep cultural and spiritual bonds” between the two countries, which share a 200,000-strong Indo-Trinidadian community. He noted that diaspora members had earlier sent sacred stones and water for the construction of the Ayodhya temple, calling them steadfast ambassadors of Indian heritage. The two prime ministers are expected to use the visit to explore broader cooperation in trade, energy and culture, adding momentum to relations that have grown steadily since the last prime-ministerial trip in 1999.
