Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi received a ceremonial welcome in Port of Spain on 4 July before joining Trinidad and Tobago’s Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar to plant a neem sapling on the grounds of the Red House, the seat of the Caribbean nation’s Parliament. The event formed part of India’s “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” (One Tree for Mother) initiative, which encourages individuals and governments to plant trees in honour of their mothers while promoting climate stewardship. Modi said both countries "understand the adverse effects of climate change and will do everything possible to make our planet greener and better." By extending the Indian-led campaign beyond its borders, the joint planting highlights growing bilateral engagement on environmental issues and signals the two governments’ intent to collaborate more closely on climate action.
