Sebastián Urra Resigns as Gendarmería Director; Government Accepts, Other Officials Also Step Down Amid Controversies

Sebastián Urra Palma resigned as the national director of Gendarmería following controversy over the transfer of his brother. The government accepted his resignation amid public criticism. Around the same period, other officials also stepped down, including former constitutional delegate Ignacio Achurra, who left his position as director of the Division of Social Organizations, and Pablo Selles, the regional education secretary of Atacama, who resigned after nearly 18 months in office. Additionally, Gendarmería addressed concerns related to the release of a hitman, stating that they were only following orders and denied responsibility for the decision. The acting director of Gendarmería publicly emphasized that their role is to comply with orders rather than question them.
