Alibaba's Tongyi Lab has officially released Wan2.2, the world's first open-source Mixture-of-Experts (MoE) architecture video generation model. Wan2.2 supports text-to-video, image-to-video, and unified video generation, offering cinematic control over lighting, color, camera, and composition. The model, licensed under Apache 2.0, features 27 billion total parameters with 14 billion active, enabling enhanced motion complexity without increasing computational costs. Wan2.2 delivers film-like quality and sharp motion control, running efficiently on a single Nvidia RTX 4090-sized GPU. The model is integrated into platforms such as the Freepik AI Suite and is priced competitively, with video generation costs starting at $0.05 for 480p and $0.10 for 720p resolutions. Additionally, faster versions of related models like Hailuo 02 have been launched, capable of generating 512p videos in under a minute at similar price points, emphasizing speed and quality. This release marks a notable advancement in China's open-source AI video generation capabilities, positioning Alibaba as a key player in the global AI video technology landscape.
