The inaugural World Humanoid Robot Games concluded on August 17, 2025, in Beijing, China, at the National Speed Skating Oval, also known as the Ice Ribbon. The three-day event featured over 500 humanoid robots representing 280 teams from 16 countries competing across 26 events, including track and field, football (soccer), kickboxing, gymnastics, obstacle courses, and real-world tasks such as sorting medicines and cleaning. The competition showcased both the advancements and current limitations of humanoid robotics. China's Unitree Robotics emerged as a dominant force, securing four gold medals in the 1500m, 400m, 100m obstacle race, and 4x100m relay, with its H1 robot setting a record time of 6 minutes 34 seconds in the 1500m race and achieving a top speed of 4.78 meters per second during the competition. Another highlight was the 100-meter dash, where a China-made robot finished in 21.50 seconds; however, the gold medal was awarded to Tiangong, which used an autonomous time multiplier advantage despite finishing third in raw time. The football finals saw Tsinghua University's Huosheng Team win the 5v5 championship and China Agricultural University's Shanhai Team take the 3v3 title. The games also included exhibitions of traditional Chinese dances performed by robots and acrobatic gymnastics routines, with robots demonstrating capabilities such as high jumps and backflips. While the event provided entertainment and a glimpse into future sports and robotics applications, experts noted that humanoid robots still face challenges in stability and practical labor tasks. The competition underscored China's growing leadership in AI and robotics innovation, with the event serving as a platform for global exchange and technological progress in the field.
