Chinese authorities have arrested Li Gang, a former senior anti-corruption official, on suspicion of accepting bribes. Li, who previously led the discipline inspection and supervision team of the Chinese Communist Party’s organization department, was removed from office and expelled from the Party. The Supreme People's Procuratorate approved his arrest following an investigation by the National Supervisory Commission. Official statements allege that Li lost his ideals, engaged in political opportunism, associated with political fraudsters, obstructed organizational investigations, and accepted banquets that could affect the impartial performance of his duties. The case has drawn significant public attention, trending on Chinese social media. In a separate case, Li Pengxin, former deputy secretary of the Communist Party Committee of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, was sentenced to death with a two-year reprieve for accepting bribes exceeding 822 million yuan (about $114 million). The court in Shaanxi Province ruled that Li Pengxin will remain imprisoned for life without parole after the reprieve period and revoked his political rights for life. Additionally, Li Jiping, former vice president of China Development Bank, was sentenced to 14 years in prison for accepting bribes worth over 57.3 million yuan ($7.85 million). Authorities have confiscated his illicit gains and imposed a fine of 4 million yuan.
The former head of the CCDI and the Central Organisation Commission. How much dirt is this guy going to be able to dish on cadres who’ve bribed him, presumably, to avoid investigation or to have others placed under liuzhi COC the nervous system of #CCP officialdom 🤯 https://t.co/vJX0M4eYQW
