The U.S. government is grappling with the aftermath of a significant Chinese espionage campaign, known as Volt Typhoon, which targeted American critical infrastructure. Senior officials from the National Security Agency (NSA) revealed that the full extent of the breach is still unknown. In response, the U.S. is employing artificial intelligence to identify victims of the hacking operation. The campaign has been linked to the Chinese APT group "Earth Krahang", which has compromised 48 government organizations across five continents. This group has managed to breach at least 70 organizations in 23 countries, including educational institutions and the communications industry, using two custom backdoors since early 2022. Despite employing standard tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTPs), the group's activities have raised significant concerns among cybersecurity experts and government officials.
