A recent report from a Chinese cybersecurity firm revealed that over 1,300 advanced persistent threat (APT) attacks targeted 14 key sectors in China during 2024. More than half of these attacks were directed at government institutions and the education sector. This report coincides with findings from Google, which indicated that U.S. adversaries, particularly Russia, are increasingly relying on cybercriminals and their tools to further their objectives in cyberspace. Additionally, the report highlighted a surge in ransomware attacks, with 574 incidents recorded in December 2024 alone. The data underscores the growing complexity of the cyber threat landscape, as nearly half of all ransomware groups were new entrants, complicating defense efforts for security teams across various sectors.
