Tensions in the South China Sea and Taiwan Strait have escalated recently with multiple maritime incidents involving China, the Philippines, and Taiwan. The Philippines' grounded warship at Ren'ai Jiao released two small boats that approached Chinese Coast Guard vessels despite repeated warnings from China. Additionally, two Philippine Coast Guard ships, BRP Melchora Aquino and BRP Bacagay, concluded a two-day mission to Half Moon (Hasa Hasa) Shoal after being harassed by the Chinese Coast Guard vessel 5304 near Palawan. Meanwhile, Chinese Coast Guard vessels identified as CCG14608, CCG14527, CCG14603, and CCG14515 have repeatedly entered Taiwan’s restricted waters off Kinmen Island, escalating maritime pressure in the region. In parallel, the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) conducted 33 aircraft sorties, including J-16 and KJ-500 types, with 20 crossing the median line of the Taiwan Strait into Taiwan’s northern, central, and southwestern Air Defense Identification Zones (ADIZ). A Chinese tugboat was also observed near the Philippine Navy's BRP Sierra Madre, though the Philippine Navy dismissed claims of towing activity.
