He emphasized that while AI can enhance efficiency, innovation, and resilience in energy systems, its current energy consumption is unsustainable unless addressed. Guterres highlighted the importance of accelerating the clean energy transition to boost economic growth, improve energy security, and expand energy access, all contributing to climate change mitigation. In 2024, investment in clean energy surpassed $2 trillion for the first time, reflecting substantial progress in the sector. Additionally, about 89% of Brazil's electricity now comes from renewable sources, mainly hydropower, although recent droughts in the southeast have strained the system.
