President Donald Trump used an energy and technology summit at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh on 15 July to unveil roughly $90 billion in private-sector commitments aimed at turning Pennsylvania into a hub for artificial-intelligence computing and the power infrastructure it demands. The inaugural Pennsylvania Energy and Innovation Summit, convened by Senator Dave McCormick, brought together chief executives from Alphabet, Microsoft, Meta, Exxon Mobil and other firms. Event organisers said more than $56 billion of the pledges will fund new power generation and transmission—largely natural-gas and hydropower projects—while about $36 billion is earmarked for AI data centres. Blackstone announced a $25 billion outlay for digital and energy infrastructure, Google disclosed a $3 billion agreement with Brookfield Asset Management to secure up to 3 gigawatts of hydropower, and cloud specialist CoreWeave committed $6 billion to build a 100-megawatt facility in Lancaster that could expand to 300 MW. Officials estimate the projects, backed by roughly 20 companies, will create tens of thousands of jobs, including 2,500 positions at a data-centre complex planned for the 828-megawatt York II Energy Center. Trump framed the investments as critical to maintaining U.S. leadership in AI as competition with China intensifies and said additional deals would be announced in the weeks ahead. Administration officials added that the White House is drafting executive actions to speed up permitting, open federal land for data-centre construction and ease connections to the national grid. A broader AI Action Plan is due by 23 July, when the president is scheduled to deliver a speech titled “Winning the AI Race.”
