A recent survey by venture capital firm DefineVC reveals that 70% of biopharma executives plan to continue investing in new opportunities to enable therapeutic discovery. Among the top 20 pharmaceutical companies surveyed, 85% consider artificial intelligence (AI) an immediate priority. In terms of AI strategy, 40% of these executives intend to balance efforts between building AI capabilities internally and partnering with external entities. The survey highlights diverse AI applications within biopharma: 45% use AI for patient recruitment in clinical trials, 55% for protein design and ADMET research, 60% for clinical research and study design, 70% for target discovery, and 60% for clinical trial analytics. Additionally, 75% employ AI for clinical trial site feasibility and selection, 55% for market access and commercialization, and 85% for medical writing. Governance around AI is also emphasized, with 80% of respondents having AI governance committees focused on ethics, use case alignment, and data policies.
