Colombian President Gustavo Petro has expressed strong support for Venezuela amid rising tensions following an increased U.S. reward against Nicolás Maduro. Petro condemned any military operations against Venezuela that lack approval from regional allies, labeling such actions as aggression. He emphasized the close ties between Colombia and Venezuela, stating that the two countries are "the same people" and ordered backing for Venezuela in the event of military interventions. Concurrently, Venezuela witnessed a nationwide "Gran marcha antiimperialista" on August 11, mobilizing citizens in various states to protest imperialism, narcoterrorism, and to show support for Maduro. Maduro highlighted Venezuela's commitment to the Geneva Agreement concerning territorial rights over the Esequibo region and reaffirmed cooperation with Colombia against narcotrafficking and for economic alliances. He also proposed integrating Colombia's military forces with Venezuela's National Bolivarian Armed Forces, asserting progress in this initiative. Maduro criticized international organizations for partiality regarding sanctions and civilian casualties in Gaza. Venezuelan institutions such as the National Electoral Council and the Supreme Tribunal of Justice publicly rejected U.S. accusations against Maduro and reiterated their support. The Venezuelan National Assembly President, Jorge Rodríguez, reported threats from the White House aimed at intimidating Venezuelan citizens. Maduro underscored the fusion of popular, military, and police forces to maintain national peace and sovereignty, with backing from all constitutional powers. In Colombia, opposition figures including former Vice President Marta Lucía Ramírez and the Centro Democrático party criticized Petro's support for Maduro, accusing him of "betrayal" and demanding explanations of any secret agreements with Venezuela.
