MongoDB Inc. reported stronger-than-expected results for its fiscal second quarter ended 31 July, as demand for its cloud-based database platform accelerated. Revenue rose 24% from a year earlier to $591.4 million, topping the roughly $554 million analysts had projected. Non-GAAP earnings were $1.00 a share, also beating the $0.66 consensus, while the company’s GAAP net loss narrowed to $47 million. Growth was driven by MongoDB Atlas, the company’s fully managed cloud service, where sales climbed 29% and accounted for 74% of overall revenue. The developer-focused firm added about 2,800 customers during the period, bringing its total base to nearly 59,900 and surpassing the 5,000-customer mark for additions in the first half of the fiscal year. Looking ahead, management forecast third-quarter revenue of $587 million to $592 million and non-GAAP earnings of $0.76 to $0.79 a share, both ahead of Wall Street estimates. Full-year revenue guidance was raised to a range of $2.34 billion to $2.36 billion, with projected earnings of $3.64 to $3.73 a share, reflecting confidence in sustained demand and operating leverage. Investors welcomed the beat-and-raise quarter. MongoDB’s shares jumped more than 20% in extended trading on Tuesday, reversing a recent decline and underscoring optimism that the company’s expanding role in data-intensive and AI-driven applications will continue to bolster growth.
