Nvidia Corp. will release fiscal-second-quarter results after the market closes on Wednesday and is expected to post about $45.9 billion in revenue, a 54% jump from a year earlier, with earnings per share projected to rise roughly 48%, according to LSEG estimates. Options traders are pricing a share-price move of around 6% in either direction after the numbers. The report is viewed as a critical test of the artificial-intelligence boom that has powered equity markets. At more than $4 trillion in market value, Nvidia accounts for nearly 8% of the S&P 500, and its chips are central to the spending plans of major cloud and social-media platforms. Technology shares slipped 1.6% last week, heightening anxiety that any disappointment from the world’s most valuable company could reverberate across indices and temper a rally that has lifted the S&P 500 about 10% this year. While investors also will parse the second estimate of second-quarter U.S. GDP on Thursday and the Federal Reserve’s preferred inflation gauge—core PCE—on Friday, earnings from Nvidia overshadow a lighter corporate calendar that nonetheless features Dell, Snowflake and Dollar General. Several Federal Reserve officials are scheduled to speak through the week, and traders now assign high odds to an interest-rate cut at the September policy meeting following Chair Jerome Powell’s dovish remarks in Jackson Hole.
