A 42-year-old businessman from Koparkhairane, Navi Mumbai, was defrauded of Rs 2.74 crore through an online gaming platform, www.satsports.com, between December 2022 and April 2025. The victim initially saw small profits from games like Teen Patti and Casino, and managed to withdraw Rs 50 lakh, but later found his account balance reduced to zero when attempting further withdrawals. The scam involved the businessman depositing Rs 3.25 crore into various bank accounts for betting purposes. The platform operated internationally, using a Virtual Private Network (VPN), and the case has been reported to the local cyber police, who have registered a First Information Report (FIR) for fraud under the Information Technology Act. In a separate incident, a young cricketer's family from Karnataka lost over Rs 24 lakh to cyber fraudsters who promised the inclusion of the cricketer in an IPL team. The fraudsters, posing as agents of the IPL team Rajasthan Royals, contacted the cricketer via Instagram after his performance in a State-level match in Hyderabad in May 2024. The family of the cricketer was asked to pay Rs 2,000 initially and later transferred Rs 23,53,550 online, with promises of match fees of Rs 4.8 lakh per match. The fraudsters disappeared after receiving the money, leading the family to report the scam to the police, who have warned the public about such fraudulent schemes.
