An Arizona judge has sentenced Isaac Damon King to 35.5 years in state prison for the 2018 killing of Department of Public Safety Trooper Tyler Edenhofer during a roadside struggle on Interstate 10 in Avondale. The punishment, handed down Thursday in Maricopa County Superior Court, includes 25 years for second-degree murder and a consecutive 10.5-year term for aggravated assault on another trooper. King, now 27, pleaded guilty in January after more than six years of procedural delays. Prosecutors said King disarmed Trooper Sean Rodecap during a late-night confrontation on July 25, 2018, and fired two shots, fatally striking Edenhofer and wounding Trooper Dallin Dorris. Edenhofer, a Navy veteran and recent academy graduate, was working his final field-training shift. Family members of the slain officer addressed the court before Judge’s ruling, calling the sentence a measure of accountability for a loss that "changed our lives forever." King offered an apology but said little else. He will be eligible for supervised release after completing the full 35.5-year term, followed by community supervision as required under Arizona law.
