
Sam Bankman-Fried, the founder of the cryptocurrency exchange FTX, has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for orchestrating a multi-billion dollar fraud that led to the collapse of FTX. The sentence was handed down by Judge Lewis Kaplan of the Southern District of New York in a hearing in New York Federal Court. In addition to the prison term, Bankman-Fried was ordered to forfeit more than $11 billion and pay $11.02 billion in restitution. The case has been described as one of the biggest financial frauds in American history, with prosecutors initially seeking a sentence of 40-50 years. Bankman-Fried's conviction includes charges of fraud and conspiracy, following the loss of over $10 billion by FTX customers and investors.
