Idaho State Police have released more than 550 pages of investigative records that shed new light on Bryan Kohberger’s conduct in the months before he fatally stabbed four University of Idaho students in November 2022. The trove, produced in response to public-records requests, includes witness interviews, crime-scene photographs and forensic analyses compiled before and after Kohberger’s December 2022 arrest. Statements from classmates and faculty at Washington State University, where Kohberger was studying for a PhD in criminology, describe him as “sexist,” “creepy” and potentially predatory. Nine separate complaints detailed incidents such as blocking female students in offices, belittling women during seminars and discussing “sexually motivated burglary.” One professor warned colleagues that if Kohberger earned a doctorate he would likely stalk or abuse future students. The documents also reveal victims’ earlier concerns and fresh details from the night of the killings. Kaylee Goncalves had told friends of a suspected stalker after a man followed her from a grocery-store parking lot, while surviving roommate Dylan Mortensen recounted hearing a masked intruder say “It’s okay, I’m going to help you” before seeing a figure leave the house. Timed police re-enactments indicate the attack could have been carried out in as little as two minutes. Separate filings show the families of Madison Mogen and Ethan Chapin have sued the city of Moscow to block public release of graphic interior crime-scene images, arguing the material would cause needless trauma and violate their privacy. Kohberger pleaded guilty in June and on 23 July 2025 received four consecutive life sentences without the possibility of parole plus 10 years for burglary, waiving rights to appeal or seek sentence reductions.
