
A federal judge rejected Donald Trump's bid to throw out an $83.3 million defamation verdict in favor of writer E. Jean Carroll, who accused the former US president of raping her decades ago. US District Judge Lewis Kaplan upheld the $83.3 million loss in the defamation case, denying Trump's request for a new trial and dismissing arguments that the jury's award was too high. The judge also rejected claims that the compensatory and punitive damages were excessive.
