Anthrocon, one of the world’s largest conventions devoted to anthropomorphic art and characters, opened its 19th annual gathering in downtown Pittsburgh on Thursday. Organizers say the 2025 edition is poised to attract a record 19,000 attendees over its four-day run that concludes July 6 at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center. Tourism agency VisitPITTSBURGH estimates the influx will generate more than $21 million in visitor spending for local hotels, restaurants and retailers. The event, anchored by a fursuit parade, block party and film screenings, has been held in Pittsburgh for nearly two decades and has become a significant summer fixture for the city’s hospitality industry.
For nearly two decades, Anthrocon has called Pittsburgh home. What started as a unique gathering has grown into a major event that fills hotels, restaurants, and streets with costumed characters, many with tails, paws, and claws. https://t.co/5GmQ6tvnlp
Every summer, anthropomorphics, otherwise known as furries — people dressed as human-like animal characters — travel from all over the world to the city for the four-day event. @mgswift7 https://t.co/Wwj7GGzyuC
