On August 9, the 8th Circuit Court ruled that a U.S. regulation restricting ownership of pistol braces is likely illegal, following a similar conclusion by the 5th Circuit a year ago. Gun rights advocates celebrated the ruling, which deemed the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives' (ATF) rule on pistol stabilizing braces as 'arbitrary and capricious.' In a related development, a federal judge blocked the enforcement of a federal ban on bump stocks in Utah, following a Supreme Court ruling that the ATF unlawfully classified them as machine guns. The U.S. District Court for the District of Utah ordered the return of a confiscated bump stock to Clark Aposhian. Additionally, the Ninth Circuit reinstated a district court's injunction against California's one-gun-per-month law in the Nguyen v. Bonta case, blocking its enforcement while the case proceeds.
