The Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries opened its ninth International Seminar in Vienna, bringing together energy ministers, company executives and financiers on 9–10 July to discuss “Charting Pathways Together: The Future of Global Energy.” The meeting at the Hofburg Palace precedes next winter’s UN climate summit and is being watched for any signals on supply policy as demand recovers. Venezuelan Vice President and Oil Minister Delcy Rodríguez, received in Vienna by OPEC Secretary-General Haitham Al Ghais, will deliver a message from President Nicolás Maduro urging producer cohesion. Venezuela, a founding OPEC member, says its output averaged 1.06 million barrels a day in May and views the forum as a chance to press for market stability while highlighting the impact of sanctions on energy security. Delegations from the forthcoming COP29 presidency and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization are also attending, underscoring the increasing overlap between oil-market discussions and industrial decarbonization. Saudi Arabia, which will host UNIDO’s general conference in November, has linked both gatherings to broader efforts on sustainable industrial growth. The seminar follows last weekend’s decision by the wider OPEC+ alliance, led by Saudi Arabia and Russia, to raise collective crude supply by 548,000 barrels a day starting 1 August, a larger increase than traders anticipated. Market participants will scrutinize remarks in Vienna for guidance on whether further adjustments are likely in the second half of the year.
