Thousands of students returned to classrooms across the Las Vegas Valley on Monday as the Clark County School District began its new academic year, the first full term under a recently appointed superintendent. Local broadcasters reported smooth openings but reminded motorists of expanded school-zone speed limits and pickup-and-drop-off congestion around campuses. The start of classes coincided with an intense heat wave covering much of the Southwest. The National Weather Service projected highs of 108-114°F for lower-desert communities and about 109°F in Las Vegas, prompting officials to urge families to send children to school with water, sunscreen and light clothing while limiting outdoor activities during peak afternoon temperatures. Florida districts, including Broward, Palm Beach and the greater Tampa Bay area, also rang in the first bell of the 2025-26 school year. State officials highlighted Florida’s month-long Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday and cautioned drivers to expect heavier traffic and longer travel times as buses and crossing guards returned to the roads.
Summer's officially coming to an end (even if the summer weather hasn't), which means school's back in session. Wishing all of our students and teachers across Broward and Palm Beach Counties a successful start to the year. Welcome back! 📚 https://t.co/I0eBt5OjIl
