Community groups, local officials and police departments staged a series of free back-to-school events across the Las Vegas Valley over the weekend, distributing backpacks, notebooks and other supplies ahead of Monday’s start of the Clark County School District’s academic year. The City of North Las Vegas opened the push with a giveaway at the Neighborhood Recreation Center on Saturday morning. Later in the day, Clark County Commissioner Justin Jones hosted a similar fair at Desert Breeze Community Center. Officers from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department also joined gatherings at Tivoli Village and Anointed Tabernacle Church, offering stickers, face painting and safety information alongside school supplies. The largest event, “Summer Fest – Back to School,” was held at the Cambridge Recreation Center in partnership with Victory Outreach LV. Commissioner Tick Segerblom said organisers provided about 1,500 backpacks filled with essentials as families enjoyed haircuts, food and entertainment. With Clark County classrooms reopening on 11 August, city officials urged motorists to watch for heavier traffic and school-zone speed limits, while parents continued last-minute shopping for technology and other necessities.
