A limited fire broke out late Thursday in a six-storey annex of Cairo’s Ramses Central telephone exchange, the country’s main communications hub. Civil-defense units contained the flames within an hour, according to local media citing the Egyptian Interior Ministry. The incident is the second at the facility in three days. A larger blaze on 7 July disrupted internet and fixed-line services nationwide, prompting estimates of sizable financial losses from the outage. Authorities said the latest flare-up was linked to residual hotspots from the earlier fire and reported that normal operations were maintained.
