A fire has been burning for two days at the Qaem shopping center in Mashhad, causing extensive damage. The blaze resulted in approximately 1,500 billion Iranian tomans in losses to cosmetic goods alone, excluding damage to the building and other equipment. The fire occurred when the shopping center was unoccupied. Separately, heavy smoke was reported over the Chitgar area in western Tehran on July 17, 2025. The smoke was caused by a landfill fire, according to Iranian state media. Witnesses noted a mild explosion before the fire broke out. Chitgar had previously been targeted during a recent 12-day conflict with Israel, and the area experienced a suspicious explosion the previous week. The landfill fire produced thick smoke visible from various parts of Tehran and Alborz provinces. No further details about the cause of the landfill fire have been provided by authorities.
