Former CIA officer John Kiriakou said in a Fox News interview on Monday that mid-level U.S. intelligence officials—whom he described as the “deep state”—likely destroyed any remaining records related to Jeffrey Epstein before the current FBI leadership took office. “I’m not blaming Director Kash Patel or Deputy Director Dan Bongino,” Kiriakou told host Jesse Watters. “I think the layer beneath them has probably taken the bull by the horns and destroyed information.” Kiriakou’s allegation followed the FBI’s release on Sunday of a two-page memorandum concluding that Epstein acted alone and that there is no evidence he kept or used an incriminating client list for blackmail. The bureau said it found no grounds to investigate uncharged third parties and signaled that no additional records would be made public. The former CIA officer compared the situation to the agency’s destruction of most MK-Ultra documents in the 1970s, arguing that U.S. intelligence bodies have a precedent for eliminating sensitive files. The comments have intensified calls for transparency from Attorney General Pam Bondi and the FBI about what information, if any, still exists on the late financier’s network and associates.
