Amateur golfer Richard Teder earned the final place in next month’s Open Championship at Royal Portrush, becoming the first player from Estonia to reach the major. The 20-year-old secured the berth at West Lancashire Golf Club’s Final Qualifying event with a walk-off eagle during a sudden-death playoff. Teder had double-bogeyed the 18th hole in regulation to fall into the playoff, but responded by driving about 340 yards on the extra hole and holing his approach from the fairway for eagle. The shot clinched the lone remaining spot available from the qualifier. Teder’s breakthrough continues a productive summer that saw him advance deep into The Amateur Championship earlier in June. He now joins a field at Portrush that includes world No. 2 Rory McIlroy and Masters champion Scottie Scheffler.
