EU Plans Fresh Russia Sanctions Package Ready for Next Month

The European Union is preparing a new package of sanctions aimed at Russia, according to EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas. Kallas said the measures are already being drafted and should be finalized and ready for implementation by next month. EU officials hope the forthcoming restrictions will tighten economic pressure on President Vladimir Putin’s government, following successive rounds of penalties imposed since Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022. European leaders are reviewing additional options to broaden the scope of the sanctions, Kallas added, without providing details on the sectors or individuals that may be targeted.
