OpenAI's ChatGPT Grosses $529M, Leads AI App Market Surge to $1.4B; EU Gains Video, Screen Sharing for Plus and Pro Users

OpenAI's ChatGPT has significantly impacted the AI app market, grossing $529 million since its May 2023 release, which is approximately four times the earnings of the next highest AI app. This success has contributed to a broader surge in AI app spending, which reached $1.4 billion in 2024, a nearly fourfold increase year-over-year. Consumer spending on AI mobile apps hit $1.1 billion in 2024, marking a 200% increase from the previous year. Additionally, OpenAI has expanded its ChatGPT mobile app's capabilities in the European Union, Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein, and Switzerland by introducing video and screen sharing features in the Advanced Voice mode, available to ChatGPT Plus and ChatGPT Pro subscribers. This update enhances the app's functionality, allowing users in these regions to share their screens and engage in video interactions, bringing the app closer to the vision of an AI companion similar to the one depicted in the movie 'Her'.
