President Donald Trump on 13 Aug 2025 revoked the 2021 executive order that his predecessor Joe Biden issued to promote competition across the U.S. economy, the White House said. Biden’s directive had sought to curb corporate consolidation that his administration argued was fuelling inflation and hurting workers and consumers. Signed in July 2021, the Biden order instructed more than a dozen federal agencies to launch 72 initiatives, from tightening Hart-Scott-Rodino merger reviews to cracking down on excessive airline fees and data practices by broadband and technology firms. It also told the Agriculture Department to make it easier for livestock producers to sue meat-packing companies over unfair pay. The Justice Department welcomed Trump’s decision, saying it will pursue an “America First Antitrust” agenda that emphasises free-market principles, streamlined merger reviews and targeted consent decrees. The revocation is part of a broader effort by the Republican administration to roll back Biden-era regulatory policies.
