Telegram on Tuesday began rolling out its self-custodial TON Wallet to the platform’s roughly 87 million users in the United States, marking the first time the crypto service has been available in the company’s second-largest market. The wallet, built on The Open Network blockchain and developed by The Open Platform, is embedded directly in Telegram’s settings and chat interface, removing the need for separate downloads or browser extensions. The service lets users send, receive and store popular cryptocurrencies, including Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana and Toncoin, as easily as sending a message. Zero-fee purchases are offered through Apple Pay, Google Pay and bank cards, while a partnership with MoonPay enables on-and-off ramps to U.S. dollars. The wallet also supports token swaps, staking and access to decentralized applications hosted inside Telegram’s growing catalogue of Mini Apps. TOP chief executive Andrew Rogozov said a friendlier U.S. regulatory climate over the past year encouraged the expansion, adding that the move is intended to “remove as much friction as possible” for digital-asset transactions. More than 100 million users worldwide activated TON Wallet in 2024, and Telegram expects the U.S. launch to accelerate adoption and heighten competition with mainstream fintech platforms such as Cash App and Coinbase.
