U.S. Rep. Kat Cammack, a Republican who represents Florida’s 3rd Congressional District, announced the birth of her first child, Augusta Dair, on 14 August at 7:44 a.m. The baby girl weighed 7 pounds 15 ounces and measured 20.5 inches. Both mother and infant are reported to be in good health, according to the statement released on 18 August. Cammack, 37, is only the 14th sitting member of Congress—and the second from Florida in the past two years—to give birth while in office. Her husband, Gainesville firefighter-paramedic Matthew Harrison, said the family is recovering well after what the couple described as a lengthy labor. The birth follows a period of heightened security for the lawmaker. In June, Cammack temporarily closed her Gainesville and Ocala district offices after law-enforcement agencies began investigating death threats linked to publicity surrounding her treatment for a life-threatening ectopic pregnancy in 2024, a case complicated by Florida’s six-week abortion ban. No new details on the investigation were disclosed in the birth announcement.
