Air France-KLM is seeking to advance its bid for TAP Air Portugal, with CEO Benjamin Smith participating in a delegation led by French President Emmanuel Macron. Macron has expressed his desire for Air France and TAP to find an 'innovative form of marriage' as part of the privatization process of the Portuguese state-owned airline, which Air France-KLM considers a 'strategic market.' The airline is prepared to present a project for TAP, indicating its commitment to the acquisition. Meanwhile, International Airlines Group (IAG) is also exploring options regarding TAP, contingent upon the freedom to manage the airline effectively. Additionally, IAG is contemplating launching a new low-cost airline in Madrid if negotiations with Iberia Express pilots do not succeed.
