Police in two countries are investigating separate antisemitic assaults reported within 24 hours. In Val-d’Oise, north-west of Paris, a man wearing a kippa was attacked in the street on Saturday, according to CRIF vice-president Nathalie Cohen-Beizermann. She said the alleged assailant is known to law-enforcement databases but remains at large. In Montreal, a 32-year-old Jewish father was repeatedly punched in front of his children at about 2:45 p.m. Friday in Beaumont-De l’Épée park, Parc-Extension. Video circulating online shows the attacker throwing the victim’s kippa into a splash pad before fleeing. The victim was treated for non-life-threatening injuries, and no arrests had been made as of Saturday. Montreal Mayor Valérie Plante called the incident “violent and unacceptable,” while the Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs urged authorities to respond firmly. French Jewish leaders issued similar demands after the Val-d’Oise assault, underscoring concerns about a rise in antisemitic violence on both sides of the Atlantic.
