Rassemblement National leader Jordan Bardella said he would stage a nationwide referendum on immigration within the first days of a far-right administration, reiterating a central plank of his party’s platform during an interview on CNEWS on 30 June. Bardella added that an RN government would seek to abolish France’s droit du sol, which grants citizenship to children born on French territory, and establish a legal presumption of self-defence for police officers. He also urged President Emmanuel Macron to dissolve the National Assembly, arguing that the current legislature is unable to halt what he described as the country’s decline. Commenting on foreign and domestic tensions, Bardella accused Algeria of repeated insults toward France amid the detention of writer Boualem Sansal and journalist Christophe Gleizes, and said the left-wing La France Insoumise should be called “France Islamist.”
