Pro-Russian Hackers Target French Local Authorities; Cicada3301 Claims 1.6 TB Data Breach with Ransom Deadline February 2, 2025
In recent days, multiple French local authorities have faced a series of cyberattacks, reportedly attributed to pro-Russian hacker groups. The attacks have resulted in blocked websites and inaccessible municipal services. The hacking incidents are seen as a retaliation against France's support for Ukraine. The group known as NoName has been identified as a key player in these attacks. Additionally, the ransomware group Cicada3301 has claimed responsibility for breaching ISOR, alleging that 1.6 terabytes of data were exfiltrated, with a ransom deadline set for February 2, 2025. Meanwhile, Atos, a major French digital services company, has denied being compromised by the ransomware group Space Bears, which had threatened to leak sensitive data by January 8, 2025. The ongoing cyber threats highlight vulnerabilities in the French digital infrastructure, particularly within local governments and healthcare institutions, as noted in a recent report by the Cour des comptes.
