OUR STRATEGY DOES NOT DEPEND ON THE MOODS OF A PRESIDENT,” SAYS TOTALENERGIES CEO PATRICK POUYANNÉ, WHO CRITICIZES PRESIDENT TRUMP AND REAFFIRMS THAT TOTAL-ENERGIES WILL CONTINUE INVESTING IN BOTH FOSSIL FUELS AND RENEWABLE ENERGY SOURCES: BFM
TotalEnergies Chief Executive Officer Patrick Pouyanné said the French energy major will continue allocating roughly 30 percent of its annual investments to low-carbon projects while sustaining spending on oil and gas, arguing that the company’s strategy is ‘not dependent on the moods of a president.’ Speaking at the Rencontres Économiques conference in Aix-en-Provence, Pouyanné dismissed former U.S. President Donald Trump’s push for expanded fossil-fuel use as irrelevant to the group’s long-term planning. Pouyanné added that Europe should be able to withstand the European Commission’s proposed ban on Russian gas imports starting in 2028, citing the company’s liquefied-natural-gas projects in Qatar and the United States as alternative supply sources. He also reiterated his call for a pan-European approach to energy policy, suggesting wind turbines be concentrated in Germany, where they are widely supported, while France relies more heavily on nuclear power.
