Italian energy major Eni has agreed to buy 2 million metric tons of liquefied natural gas annually from Louisiana-based Venture Global under a 20-year contract valued at roughly $15 billion. The LNG will be sourced from Venture Global’s planned Calcasieu Pass 2 terminal and is scheduled to begin flowing before the end of the decade, the companies said on Wednesday. The deal—Eni’s first long-term U.S. LNG commitment—was sealed shortly after Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni met President Donald Trump in Washington and as the European Union faces the prospect of steep U.S. tariffs on its exports. By locking in American supplies, Rome aims to diversify away from Russian pipeline gas while the Trump administration advances its ‘energy dominance’ strategy and looks to widen Europe’s dependence on U.S. hydrocarbons. Separately, at the Pennsylvania Energy and Innovation Summit in Pittsburgh, Trump joined Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, Sen. Dave McCormick and state leaders in highlighting more than $90 billion in planned spending on natural-gas infrastructure, grid upgrades and AI-focused data centers across the state. Lutnick said the projects will position Pennsylvania as a hub for power-hungry artificial-intelligence facilities and underscore the link between abundant domestic energy and advanced manufacturing. Together, the Eni agreement and the Pennsylvania investment pledges illustrate the administration’s twin goals of expanding fossil-fuel exports and attracting capital to energy-intensive technologies, even as tariff talks with Brussels enter a decisive phase.
The Golden Age of Energy Dominance is underway 🇺🇸 https://t.co/iZKxhbGEVa
Trump didn’t just make a deal. He flipped the script as tariff pressure hit and Europe folded. Now, billions of American gallons of gas are flowing to Italy. The media stays quiet, but this is real leverage, real strategy, and proof that America is back on top. https://t.co/STkgSZJmia
“US and EU firms strike major gas deal” Because of President Trump’s energy dominance agenda, our allies no longer have to rely on foreign adversaries to generate the power they need. American energy dominance is more important than ever before. https://t.co/phQojGCawE
