Germany’s Merz to Join Ukraine Aid Call and EU Crisis Summit Tuesday

The German government said Chancellor Friedrich Merz will join two separate video conferences on Tuesday, 19 August, focused on support for Ukraine. At 12:15 p.m. local time, Merz will participate in a call of the international “coalition of the willing,” a group of countries coordinating military and financial assistance to Kyiv. Forty-five minutes later, at 1:00 p.m., the chancellor will take part in an extraordinary EU summit convened by European Council President António Costa. Berlin added that the participants in both meetings aim to step up coordination in the coming days and weeks amid continued Russian attacks.
