Tommy Fleetwood will take a one-stroke advantage into Sunday’s final round of the FedEx St. Jude Championship after posting a one-under-par 69 to reach 14-under at TPC Southwind. The Englishman is seeking his first PGA Tour victory and has converted 11 previous top-three finishes without a win. Compatriot Justin Rose sits alone in second at 13-under despite revealing he has been battling a fever that caused him to miss Wednesday’s pro-am. World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler surged into contention with a six-birdie 65 and is two shots off the pace, while JJ Spaun and Andrew Novak are a further stroke back at 11-under. The tournament is the opening leg of the FedExCup Playoffs, restricted to the season’s top 70 players. Only the top 50 in points after Sunday will qualify for next week’s BMW Championship; Rickie Fowler is currently projected 49th, with South African rookie Aldrich Potgieter on the bubble at 51st. Reflecting on yet another chance to break through, Fleetwood said, “Tomorrow might be my day, it might not, but just being there is the most important thing.” He and Rose are scheduled to tee off in the final pairing at 1:40 p.m. Eastern.
