World No. 1 golfer Scottie Scheffler began the final round of the FedEx St. Jude Championship in Memphis without regular caddie Ted Scott, who left the tournament on Sunday to attend to an undisclosed family emergency. Brad Payne, a PGA Tour chaplain and president of the College Golf Fellowship, stepped in on short notice to carry Scheffler’s bag. Payne has caddied for Scheffler before, including during last year’s PGA Championship when Scott briefly departed for a family commitment. Scheffler started the day at 12-under par, two strokes behind leader Tommy Fleetwood as the first FedExCup playoff event moved toward its conclusion.
