The R&A said it will introduce an on-site "Last-Chance Qualifier" for the Open Championship starting in 2026. The one-day event, modelled on PGA Tour Monday qualifiers, will be held on the Monday of tournament week at Royal Birkdale and feature up to 12 players vying for the final berth in the major’s 156-strong field. The governing body said fan surveys showed demand for more live golf during the days leading into the championship. In addition to the qualifier, the R&A plans a new Heroes Classic exhibition on the Tuesday, while existing regional and final qualifying routes remain unchanged.
The R&A announced that it will host a “last chance” on-site qualifier for the Open Championship beginning next year.
