He announced a €100 million funding plan from the European Structural and Investment Funds (ESPA) aimed at supporting projects on Mount Athos through 2030, including 10 specific actions. Mitsotakis also reassured that the character of the Monastery of Sinai would remain unchanged. The Prime Minister visited the Monastery of Vatopedi where he met with Abbot Ephraim, and the Monastery of Simonos Petra, attending a divine liturgy and participating in memorial services for his parents, who are recorded as benefactors in the monastery's records. The visit included the presence of Apostolos, Metropolitan of Miletus, representing the Ecumenical Patriarchate. Prior to the Mount Athos visit, Mitsotakis met with Markus Krebber, CEO of RWE AG, to discuss photovoltaic investments and opportunities in Macedonia. The visit coincided with a private visit by the Chinese Prime Minister to Rhodes. Mitsotakis highlighted the importance of safeguarding the country and its citizens amid challenges, reaffirming the government's commitment to national security and cultural heritage.
