Guatemala City Honors Patron Saint with Feast of the Assumption Procession
Guatemala City staged its annual Feast of the Assumption procession on 15 August, with the centuries-old image of the Virgen de la Asunción leaving the Parroquia Nuestra Señora de La Asunción in Zone 2 shortly after midday. Thousands of worshippers gathered for a morning Mass before accompanying the image through the capital’s historic centre. The cortege passed traditional landmarks including the Feria de Jocotenango fairgrounds and headed toward Parque Jocotenango, filling streets with marching bands, floral displays and parish groups celebrating the city’s patron saint. Municipal authorities set up traffic diversions and security cordons, reporting a peaceful event with no major incidents.
