Guyana is intensifying efforts to curb the smuggling of gold from Venezuela, following requests from the U.S. government. The crackdown targets gold trafficking that allegedly finances Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro's regime. Authorities in Guyana have noted that the smuggled gold is sold at prices lower than the global market rates in U.S. dollars. Meanwhile, in the satellite internet sector, companies are advancing their services to expand connectivity. Amazon aims to launch its satellite internet offering by the end of 2025 to compete with SpaceX's Starlink. Google is also developing a satellite internet service similar to Starlink. Starlink has entered an agreement with the Brazilian Public Ministry to track and block internet access used by illegal miners in the Amazon. Additionally, Starlink has been utilized to provide reliable internet coverage during high-demand events, such as the Oasis reunion tour in Cardiff, where cellular networks were overwhelmed.
