Crypto scammers have used deepfake technology to impersonate Apple CEO Tim Cook during the iPhone 16 launch event on September 9. The fake livestreams on YouTube featured a convincing AI-generated version of Cook, who solicited Bitcoin from viewers. This scam has been live for days, if not weeks, and coincided with the SpaceX launch, which also saw a similar crypto scam involving an AI-dubbed Elon Musk. The SpaceX launch scam was the 3rd largest live stream on YouTube, with 'live viewers' being bots for fake authenticity. The fake Apple event stream tricked many YouTube users with a crypto giveaway.
