BriseBois on filling the void left by Luke Glendening, a right handed center who took the third most faceoffs on the team last season and won 57% of them: “Holmberg actually does well on the right side and Jack Finley is in the mix now. We're going to give Finley every chance to
Key here is Finley is a right-hand shot, something the #GoBolts don't have many of. BriseBois did also mention that Holmberg is good from the right face-off circle as a lefty, so that gives the team options. https://t.co/SBs5vqIEs9
#GoBolts BriseBois said 22-year-old F Jack Finley will get a chance to win a full-time NHL spot this fall. "He's going to be given that opportunity. He's done it really well at the AHL level. He's been that penalty kill, right-shot face-off guy who excels in the dot, and we're
The Tampa Bay Lightning have acquired 26-year-old forward Pontus Holmberg and intend to use him primarily at centre, General Manager Julien BriseBois said on Wednesday. BriseBois described Holmberg, who can also play wing and already has NHL experience, as a player with “untapped potential” who could step directly into the fourth-line centre role vacated by Luke Glendening. Glendening, a right-handed shot, took the third-most faceoffs for Tampa Bay last season and won 57 percent of them. BriseBois said Holmberg, a left-handed shooter effective from the right faceoff circle, should give the club flexibility while it evaluates internal options. Chief among those options is 22-year-old Jack Finley, whom BriseBois confirmed will be given a chance to earn a full-time roster spot at training camp. Finley excelled in the American Hockey League last year as a right-shot penalty-killer and faceoff specialist. The addition of Holmberg, BriseBois added, allows the Lightning to bring Finley along at an appropriate pace without rushing other prospects.
